Abstract (EN)

The protection of cultural assets, which are increasingly important in cultural, social and economic dimensions and are an integral part of our social identity, is a comprehensive interdisciplinary issue. Museums have been established in order to understand and evaluate this diversity and to ensure the continuity of culture. The main function of museums is to protect the collections and create opportunities to ensure their transfer from generation to generation. According to the researches, the survival of history and culture in museums is in direct proportion to the application of correct storage and display techniques and the presentation of environmental conditions. Undoubtedly, this situation plays an active role in extending the life of the artefacts. From this point of view, it is important to preserve the "carpet", which is a precious object that is admired in every period, witnesses history, has a great accumulation of knowledge and the superior aesthetic understanding of Turkish people, in museums. In museums exhibiting our culture and art; there are a number of principles for protection. In this context, the techniques that should be applied for the protection of carpets were investigated in the study, and within the scope of field research, the carpet collections of the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum and the Turkish and Islamic Arts Museum were examined and a comparison was made regarding the techniques applied. The aim is "to examine the experience that carpets add to cultural heritage, to investigate the basic principles and to examine the protection-exhibition techniques applied". In this direction, the stages to be applied after a carpet comes to the museum, the conservation process of the artefacts in the museum, the processes before and after the exhibition and exhibition techniques, storage conditions and storage techniques have been discussed, and comparisons have been made regarding the techniques and conservation process applied by both museums and suggestions have been made.
