Abstract (EN)

Biological membranes are complex and dynamic systems that exist in all living cells. It is very important to understand the relationship between phospholipids which are basic structural units of biological membranes and vitamins which provide our body the use of carbohydrates, lipids and proteins by coenzyme roles. Since biological membranes are very complex structures, simplified model membrane systems are used which we can change the components as well. The purpose of this study is to understand the investigation of B complex vitamins and biological membranes by using model membranes. In order to examine the physical interactions, the effects of vitamin B on the lipid phase transition temperature, membrane order and membrane dynamics were investigated and spectroscopic and calorimetric measurements were performed. These investigations were carried out by using Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) Spectroscopy and Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) techniques. Due to these types of studies interactions of vitamin B on membranes can be obtained in molecular level. Moreover, these studies are likely to contribute to better understanding of physiological effects of organic components such as phospholipids and vitamin B on humans.
