ABSTRACTMaster ThesisINVESTIGATING THE EFFECT OF RELATIVE HUMIDITY ON HARDNEDCONCRETE?S PHSYCAL FEATURESHasan TEPEFırat UniversityNatural and Applied Sciences InstituteDepartment of Construction Education2006, Page: 64The concrete having a wide application field on consruction industry, can be ınfluencedby a lot of chemical and physical effects during service life because of water and humidity, canlose its durability and strength day by day. Humidity has the effect on becoming all physical andchemical events causing deterioration on hardened concrete. So, the service life of buildingswill decrease, the expense of restoration and care will increase. The water in fresh concret evaporates fast besause of both environmental and hidrationtemperature. If the environmental relative humidity is high, both evaporation will slow downand concrete will get the water necessary for hidration from reletive humidity. If the relativehumidity rate of environment is low, the water in concrete will evaporate faster and concret willshrink. The water entering into concrete by bringing other chemicals with can cause the insidestresses with chlorine and acid effects, corrosion, alkali effects, carbonation and water freezing. In case of being unpermeability concrete, water and dangerous liquids causing a lot of durabilityproblems can?t enter into concrete. Low water/cement rate is necessary for unpermeableconcrete. Because the low water/cement rate makes difficult warkability of concrete, some addsimproveing the workability have been developed. We can prduce concrete having low permeability, hihg strenght and durability by usingthe low water/cement rate, aggregate having low prosity, making approprate cure or using someminerals and chemical admixtures making concrete unpermeability. Keywords: Concrete, Relatıve Humidity, Permeability, Strenght and Durability,I
