The effect on treatment adherence of personality traits in addicted indivitual

Addiction is a multifactorial chronic brain disorder that requires long term follow up and treatment. Determination of factors that may affect the treatment have importance in terms of the treatment success. This study was realized in order to examine the effect of temperament and character properties on treatment compliance. This study was conducted between January 2021-May 2021 in YEDAM's across Turkey. 67 individuals who applied to YEDAM were participated in the research. Sosiodemographic information form, addiction profile index clinic form (BAPİ-K), temperament and character inventory (TCI) were used in data collection. The data showed that treatment adherance individuals, severe craving ( one of the sub-variables of BAPI) score had a higher than treatment non-adherance individuals. TCI and BAPI-K sub-variables was not have a significant effect on treatment adherence. According to the type of substance used, the self-transcendence (one of the TCI sub-variables) score was lower for who used alcohol and drugs together. Addiction severity was no significant difference according to sex, education level and criminal history. It is seen that the average of addiction severity scores of individuals with a family history of addiction is higher.
