Foreign policyof the Rebuplic of Azerbaijan during the independence period :1991-2005

The thesis which is entitled ?Foreign Policy of the Rebuplic of Azerbaican during the Independence Period (1991-2005)? analyses the foundation of Azerbaican after the collapse of the Soviet Union and investigates the foreign policies of the political leaders. The main determinant of the Azerbaicanian foreign policy, the Karabağ problem,which is closely related to the territorial integrity of the country, and the effects of this problem on the international relations of Azerbaican, constitute the main subject of this thesis. In this context, the efforts of the European Security and Cooperation Organisation, the other international organisations and the related states for the resolution of the Karabag conflict are given until 2005. In addition, the problem of the judical status of the Caspian Sea and the policies of the related states are investigated under a different chapter. Moreover, this thesis analyses the relations of the Azerbaican republic with the great powers which are active in the region such as Russia and United States, and with the regional powers like Iran, Turkey and Armenia.
