Bibliography of the history of Balıkesir

Numerous scientific studies have been conducted on Balıkesir, which has been home to many civilizations. In this research, a bibliography has been prepared by bringing together the works written about Balıkesir, including the historical background of Balıkesir and its districts, the nations and languages found in these districts, and the historical structures. The aim of this work is to enable researchers interested in Balıkesir to access the relevant works quickly and easily by providing them with bibliographic information in a systematic manner. During the research phase, works containing the term "Balıkesir" in their title or content were identified by visiting libraries such as the Beyazıt State Library, the Presidential Library, and the Istanbul University Central Library. These works were categorized according to their types: books, theses, journals, newspapers, separate publications, articles, symposiums, maps, postcards, photographs, and albums. They were then prepared in alphabetical order in the format of bibliographic entries. In addition, the library catalogs of university libraries and other public institutions were scanned online. As a result, 3100 bibliographic entries have been analysed. Of these entries, 1334 were books, 878 were theses, 189 were symposium papers and articles, 17 were separate publications, 72 were journals, 8 were Electronic Theses, 16 were Electronic Books, 299 were photographs, 49 were newspapers, 47 were maps, 183 were postcards, and 8 were albums. These entries cover the history, literature, geography, geology, art history, sports, handicrafts, and tourism of Balıkesir.
