Abstract (EN)
The interaction between technology and architecture is not a temporary interaction that can be limited over time, but rather unlimited and timeless. Technological developments are at the center of many of the developments in the architectural environment. Bank branches have undergone many structural and spatial changes from past to present. Periodic changes, both in architecture and in technology and finance, affect these structures. The bank branches should keep pace with the technological developments required by the era and be designed as flexible spaces parallel to the development of the banking service offered. Within the scope of the thesis, the historical developments of the bank branches are transferred and technological developments affecting the banking and architecture are given. In addition, branches that are under the influence of technology are more likely to show the transformation that banks have experienced; traditional and new generation branches. location, space and façade. The indirect interaction of architecture and technology is called the direct interaction of technology and architecture by architectural technology's influence on bank branches' decisions such as building, material and detail, and the influencing of architectural decisions by changing the customer-staff relationship of information and communication technologies and enabling new vehicle usage. The new alternative means of influencing the way customers receive banking services and their ability to perform transactions from different locations have added flexibility to the bank branch architecture and added to the traditional branch architecture program in additional functions. Desirable points to be reached in the new generation branch architects are architectural and social aspects; in terms of architecture, to use branch indoor and outdoor conditions in maximum efficiency and, in social terms, to enable the customer to make transactions more comfortable, fast and without hesitation, to increase branch personnel and customer satisfaction. It is aimed to bring the flexibility of spaces to be continuous, changing needs and adapting to the scenario. With the advances in construction technologies and information technologies, mechanical solutions and intelligent building technologies, it is possible to access the desired next generation branch architectures for existing bank branches. The target of the dissertation is in the context of customer-bank interaction with traditional bank branches; location, facade, and space, and assessing architects' adaptations to the new generation of branches. Analytic hierarchy process, which is one of the most criterion-based decision making methods, uses the AHP method and a list with the highest to lowest adaptation score is reached. Location assessment; the value of the area shared by the city in the usage of the parking lot, the population of the branch location and the square meter usage of the branch are taken into consideration. In facade analysis; street front value and facade transparency rate are evaluated. In the spatial analysis; spatial spreading, visual continuity of the room and the use of circulation are measured. Visual continuity value measurement is calculated by visual graph analysis VGA (visual graph analysis) method. The problem is defined in the introduction part which constitutes the first part of the work, and its purpose and importance is given. Then, the research questions and the method, the scope of the work and the editing are transferred and the section is finalized. The second part of the thesis examines the historical development of the relationship between architecture and technology. Depending on how the technology affects architecture, the corresponding interaction is classified under direct and indirect interaction headings. The building information system is defined as building information modeling (BIM), construction and manufacturing technology, and developments in material technology. The changes in user habits caused by the changes that the user has experienced sociologically in the face of technology and the transformations in the used devices are classified as indirect interaction. The user demands spatial transformation depending on the changing social life. The adaptation on which the thesis work is based is on this demand. An example of a demanding claim is that the users can use their home-office space as their office space, depending on the changing working conditions of the users. Another example is offices with playgrounds attached to office spaces that are working spaces depending on the habits of the changing generation. Converted spaces due to indirect and direct influence of technology; schools, hospitals, post offices, bank branches, etc. In the third chapter, the historical process of bank branch architects and banking technologies is briefly summarized. The direct and indirect interaction, which is classified in the interaction between architecture and technology, is considered as the interaction of bank branches against technology in this section. The emergence of technological advances in social life and expectations of user profile, the use of transformed tools by technological developments in the sector, and the use of digital multimedia in architecture, is an indirect interaction of branch architects against technology. Changes in the materials used in the architects of the branches and in the direct addition of digital multimedia to the architecture are considered as direct interaction. In addition, the development and transformation of the technological tools of the banking sector in branch architects directly influence the architect. Branch architects are separated according to their technological compatibility, under the headings of the new generation and traditional branches; location, facade, and location. In the fourth chapter, the adaptation processes of the traditional bank branches to the new generation branches are transferred. Criteria determined in relation to adaptation, position, façade and field. The location where the branch is located; population, parking value and interaction with the city are evaluated as the ratio of the square meters passing. Front; street frontage and facade transparency values. The last criterion is space; span value, circulation value, spatial depth and visual continuity of the space. New generation branches and traditional branch descriptions are discussed in detail through these criteria. The criteria sought during the adaptation of traditional branches to the new generation branches are converted into measurable values. The analytic hierarchy method AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process), one of the multi-criteria decision making methods, gives a value coefficient for each criterion. The priority criteria are calculated by AHP method and listed according to the closeness of traditional branches to the desired new generation branch criteria. The fifth section is the section devoted to fieldwork of the study. The survey was conducted for ten selected branches of a local bank located in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Located on the banks of minors Turkey and TRNC economy is not specialized bank branches such as the World bank branches, full service branches are classic. The Cyprus Economy Bank has been selected because of its technological progress. Ten bank branches belonging to different locations are selected and these ten branches are analyzed according to the criteria given in the previous section. All the criteria that are determined under the headings of location, façade and space of the branches are reached numerical values with the calculation formulas which are transferred in the context. Each criterion is provided with range values determined on the AHP evaluation scale. The evaluation scale of these criteria was defined as items with high cost and duration of work which are outstanding in compatibility with the new generation of branches. After the AHP calculation, the adaptation of ten branches of KIB (Cyprus Bank of Economics) to the new generation branches was measured. Yenikent Branch is listed as the most compatible branch in this list and Gemikonağı Branch is in the last place as adaptation most costly branch. In the sixth chapter, which is the last chapter, the proposed analysis process is evaluated and the targets for developing the method in the following stages are explained. Throughout the study, it is aimed to draw attention to the architectural and urban elements that stand out in the technological transformations of the branches and to develop a method which can contribute to the works of the construction real estate units of the institutions in the sector. Within the technology transformations of the banks, they have to change many ways of doing business and redefine the relationships they establish with their customers. One of the technology contributions is the increased branch costs and the ability of customers to receive bank-free banking services. Indirectly, banks can squeeze branch stocks with this system. By analyzing the building stocks with this method, the banks can determine their priorities according to the list of points obtained and can also decide on the elimination of branches with very low adaptation values. In the conversion process that banks will prefer, it means the most compatible branch with less cost, less business duration. The most important noteworthy element is that in terms of the architectural discipline contribution of the study, it describes a new branch architecture model that is transformed in the face of technology and discusses important design decisions about how to design branches of technology banks.
