Abstract (EN)
In this work titled "Architecture of the Ottoman Period in Bartın and Surrounding Area", The mosques of Bartın built between 1299 and 1923 were examined. The Ottomans, rising from the state to the empire and the state to the empire, have undergone socio - economic and political changes from foundation to decadence. How did all these changes shape the Ottoman worship together with the westernization process? What is the place and importance in the history of the artifacts that have reached from the Ottoman Empire day by day? In this study, the above questions were tried to be answered. As a result of the investigations and examinations, it has been determined that a large number of religious buildings have been constructed in this period of time in the region. However, it is thought that most of these structures may not have reached the present day or they may have been restored and have undergone name change in the Republican Period. While some of the existing structures retained the originality, it was seen that some of the mosques partially lost their periodical features with the unconscious interventions for repair. The total number of mosques reached up to the present day by preserving the plan and structural features was determined as seven in Bartin. One of these structures was originally a church and later turned into a mosque. It was also noted that a building used as a chapel was transformed into a house of art after temporarily functioning as a mosque. The Mosques subject to this research were studied using scientific methods of Art History. General publications about Bartın, sources of funding, archive records and books used during thesis work. The mosques were supported by photographs and drawings. Analyzes and findings were evaluated in the last part of the thesis. It is seen that the Ottoman mosques in Bartin continued the mission of art and the historicity of the age in which they were built. It can also be argued that the architectural perspectives within urban texture are the reasons for the preservation of these structures.
