Abstract (EN)
The aim of this study is to examine the historical and technical interactions between printmaking and photography and to investigate how this relationship has shaped an identity in contemporary art. The invention of photography in the 19th century brought about a significant transformation in art and visual modes of expression. However, this transformation was shaped not only by the development of photography itself but also by its historical relationship with printmaking. In its early stages, photography lacked reproducibility, and this limitation prompted traditional printmaking techniques to seek ways to represent photographic images, allowing their visual characteristics to be reproduced in the format of an artwork. The study examines the historical interactions ranging from the early experiments of photography that utilized the aesthetics and traditions of printmaking techniques to the adoption of photographic processes in traditional printmaking. The relationship between printmaking and photography is analyzed from conceptual and technical perspectives, determining its contribution to the formation of a contemporary identity. This interaction has led to the emergence of new techniques in printmaking, particularly photomechanical techniques, fostering a creative dialogue within the art world. Thus, the connection between photography and printmaking is not merely a technological innovation but also an artistic revolution that has laid the foundation for contemporary artistic expressions, whose influence persists to this day. In this field, where photographic images intersect with traditional printmaking techniques, artists strive to bridge the gap between the old and the new while also taking advantage of the possibilities offered by technological advancements. Understanding the evolution of traditional printmaking methods alongside the innovations introduced by photography is considered essential for comprehending the creative potential that emerges at this intersection, the artistic expression it enables, and its place within contemporary art.
