Abstract (EN)

Throughout the ages, most of the cities are established near stream beds. Water has always had an important place in human life and water is also connected with the transition to sedentary life and the start of agriculture. One of the most important problems of Greek and Roman cities was to obtain water. Aqueducts are a big problem and works of arts caused by this problem.Bringing water to many cities which didn?t have water earned many aqueducts, which are works of art, to these cities. Most of the aqueducts and vaults are works of Romans, who are quite the master in their construction, and there are beautiful examples of these aqueducts which survived to this day. If the geographic conditions for bringing water to cities were suitable, aqueducts which are made by adding stone, lead and clay tile together were used. However, if the site conditions aren?t suitable for this, aqueducts which have one or more storey were constructed. There are aqueducts which go for kilometers. In many locations of Europe, it is possible to encounter these engineering marvels which were constructed by Romans. The most beautiful examples which survived until today are located at West Anatolia and Istanbul. In scope of this study, many of the aqueducts in Western Anatolia were examined, their sources investigated and based on these, designs were made. These designs were brought to life by utilizing ceramic and glass materials.
