Determination of the viticulture potential of batman province

This study was carried out by using face-to-face survey method with 105 participants determined by the proportional sample volume formula from a total of 3,231 producers registered in the farmer registration system in Batman province Merkez district and Gercüş, Hasankeyf, Beşiri, Sason and Kozluk districts between 2020-2021. In the study, as well as the sociodemographic characteristics of the producers with the general situation of the vineyards, producers' informations related to planting sapling, soil analysis, agricultural struggle methods, irrigation, fertilization, pruning, tillage, tools and equipment presence, foreign labor use, marketing and sales, agricultural insurance and organic agriculture were revealed. It was determined that the average age of the producers was 51.55 in terms of their sociodemographic characteristics, and 49.5% of them were primary school graduates in terms of educational status. Compared some factors that may affect growing, such as benefiting from incentives, making soil analysis in their vineyard, using grafted saplings, and having agricultural insurance, statistically significant relationship wasn't found. However, the relationship between education status and fertilization in the vineyard was found statistically significant. Compared some factors that may affect the yield such as fertilizer use, type of fertilizer used, pruning method and summer pruning and yield obtained by the producers per decare the statistically significant relationship wasn't found. However, the relationship between the yield and the irrigation method they used was found statistically significant. According to the results of the survey; it was determined that the education levels of majority of the participants were the basic level, their lands were heritage, they didn't used new viticulture systems because it was costly, they directed to almond and pistachio as an alternatine product because they were not satisfied with the profits obtained from grapes, they were uninformed about soil analysis and cultural practices and solved their problems with other farmers. In order to overcome these problems, it is necessary to provide solutions such as trainings to the producers from growing to marketing, ensuring their organization through cooperatives, placing the consultancy system and raising the awareness of the producers.
