Abstract (EN)

Theileriosis is a significant cattle disease caused by protozoan parasites belonging to the genus Theileria, particularly in the form of Tropical Theileriosis, which is mainly caused by Theileria annulata. This form of the disease is especially prevalent in the Mediterranean Basin, the Middle East, and Asia. It holds great importance in veterinary medicine and livestock production due to its severe negative impacts on cattle health and productivity, particularly in tropical and subtropical regions. This study aims to determine the prevalence of T. annulata and T. orientalis in cattle raised in the city center and districts of Batman using molecular methods. As part of the study, blood samples will be collected from at least 200 cattle across various livestock enterprises located in the central city of Batman and five surrounding districts. Blood samples will be taken from the animals via the jugular vein using sterile vacutainer tubes, with samples placed into tubes containing EDTA. Each tube will be labeled with the animal's breed, age, sex, and location information. Genomic DNA will be isolated from the EDTA-containing whole blood samples in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. Following DNA isolation, conventional PCR studies will be conducted. All data obtained will be analyzed using appropriate statistical software in accordance with the study's objectives.
