Abstract (EN)
The study are is located within Biga Peninsula (NW Anatolia) and covers an area of approximately 300 km2 area between Bayramiç to the north and Küçükkuyu to the south. In this study a focus will be given to the southern part of Bayramiç, where the high-grade metamorphic core rocks, low-grade cover rocks and mélange provide the best outcrops to be investigated. From this end, we will try to identify the origin and tectonic settings of these rocks. The study area, comprises south eight tectono-stratigraphic units. These are: i. Kazdağ Group, ii. Elliayak eclogite, iii. Akpınar serpentinites, iv. Örenli metamorphics, v. Çetmi group, vi. Evciler pluton, vii. Neojen sedimantary, volcanic and volcano-sedimantary rocks (Küçükkuyu and Bayramiç formations), viii. and Aluvium. The basement of the study area is made up of high grade metamorphic rocks (shist-amphibolite-granitic gneiss) with marble lenses of Kazdag Group. They are divided into four subunits, consisting of granitic gneiss, amphibolite, mica schist and marble lenses. Exhumation of these high grade metamorphic rocks occured in the footwall of a low-angle normal fault(s), during which green-schist facies metmorphism overprinted an early phase of amphibolite metamorphism.Elliayak eclogite that consist of garnet micashist and eclogite and Akpınar serpentinites overlie the Kazdağ Group as tectonic slices. Low-grade Örenli metamorphics consisting of metapelite and metabasite with recrystalized limestone lenses, overlie garnet-mica shicst, eclogites and serpentinites, with a tectonic contact. Örenli metamorphics are overlain tectonically by unmetamorphosed and strongly deformed Çetmi group in the southern part of the study area; wherecase the contact between these with appears to be a WNW-ESE trending sinistral oblique fault (Uzunalan fault). Kazdağ Group and Örenli metamorphites are cut by Evciler pluton. Küçükkuyu formation overlies Çetmi group uncomformably in the southernmost part of the study area. In the northernmost part of the study area Örenli metamorphics are overlain uncomformably by lacustrine carbonates and terrestrial clastics of Bayramiç formation. Alluvium (mix of slack pebble, sand, silt and clay) overlies all the units uncomformbly.
