Abstract (EN)

In this thesis, Schiff base ligands based on 4-aminoantipyrine, a pyrazolone derivative, were obtained and novel copper(II) complexes of these ligands were synthesized in the presence of pyridine derivative secondary ligands. The characterizations of the synthesized ligands and complexes were investigated by elemental analysis and spectroscopic methods (IR, UV-Vis, ESI-MS, 1H-NMR) and the single crystal structure of the complexes was elucidated by X-ray diffraction method. The biological activities of the obtained complexes were evaluated by examining their antioxidant capacity by CUPRAC method and their cytotoxic effects on MDA-MB-231 human breast cancer, HT-29 human colon cancer and HUVEC human umbilical vein endothelial cell lines by MTT assay. All complexes were found to have square pyramidal geometry. MTT results showed that K1, K4 and K5 complexes exhibited cytotoxic activity against MDA-MB-231 cell line and K4 complex against HT-29 cell line. In HUVEC cell line, all compounds were found to be much less toxic than cisplatin. Considering the biological importance of 4-aminoantipyrine and its copper(II) complexes, this thesis will contribute to the literature in terms of synthesis, characterization and potential biological properties of this class of metal complexes.
