Abstract (EN)
Aim: The aim of this study is to determine the effect of ShotBlocker and cold massage application on pain, crying duration and physiological parameters during DaBT-IPA-Hib vaccine administration in 2-6 month old babies. Materials and Methods: The study was conducted as a randomised controlled experimental single-blinded study. The population of the research was created by 2-6 month old babies who came to receive DaBT-İPA-Hib vaccination with treatment date options applied at Giresun/Güce District State Hospital Family Health Center. The sample of the study consisted of 2-6-month-old infants who came for DaBT-IPA-Hib vaccination at Giresun/Güce District State Hospital Family Health Unit between November 2022 and March 2024, met the inclusion criteria, and whose parents agreed to participate in the study. A total of 108 infants, 36 in the Shotblocker© group, 36 in the cold massage group, and 36 in the control group, were included in the study. The data were collected with the Infant Introductory Information and Follow-up Form and FLACC-Pain Scale. Descriptive statistics, Shapiro-Wilk test statistic, one-way ANOVA, Fisher Exact test, Box's M test, Mauchly's W test statistic, Levene's test statistic and two-way mixed ANOVA were used to analyse the data. Results: It was observed that the infants participating in the study showed homogeneous distribution in terms of demographic and descriptive characteristics and there was no statistically significant difference between the groups (p>0.05). In the study, no statistically significant difference was observed between the Shotblocker©, cold massage and control groups before and after DaBT- IPA- Hib vaccine administration (p>0.05). When the mean body temperature measurement values between the groups were analysed, the mean body temperature of the infants in the control group was found to be statistically significantly lower than the other two intervention groups (p<0.01). No significant difference was found between the pain scores and crying duration of Shotblocker©, cold massage and control groups before, during and after DaBT- IPA- Hib vaccine administration (p>0.05). Conclusion: It was determined that ShotBlocker© and cold massage application had no effect on pain, crying time, pulse rate and SpO2 parameters during DaBT-IPA-Hib vaccine administration in 2-6-month-old infants.
