Personal and social adjustment levels of students in schools of physical education and faculties of education

Abstract (EN)

-75- ABSTRACT The aim of this study is to determine the personal and social adjustment levels of students in Schools of Physical Education and Faculties of Education. The study has been carried out by means of survey method and the personal and social adjustment levels have been obtained through Hacettepe Personal Questionnaire developed by Özgüven (1992) and data concerning personal qualities through Personal Data Forms. The scope of this study consists of first year and fourth year students of Primary School Teaching Departments of Gazi University Gazi Faculty of Education, Kastamonu Faculty of Education, Kırşehir Faculty of Education and Physical Education Teaching Departments of Gazi University Gazi School of Physical Education and Sport, Kastamonu School of Physical Education and Sport and Kırşehir School of Physical Education and Sport. To analyse the data obtained, the significance control of the differences among the personal, social and general adjustment mean scores has been determined by means of t-test applied to independent groups. With the aim of analysing adjustment levels with regard to different variants, two-way variance analysis has been applied. When basic effects are found significant in this analysis, Tukey test has been utilized to point out because of which group differences these effects arise. As a result, it has been found that, with regard to school types, the adjustment levels of the students in Schools of Physical Education and Sport with compared to the adjustment levels of the students in Faculties of Education, with regard to the sex, the adjustment levels of male students with compared to the female students, and with regard to the classroom levels, the adjustment levels of the fourth year students with compared to the first year students are meaningfully high. While there are no significant differences in the variants of students1 hometowns, education levels of their parents and the economical situation of their families, meaningful difference has been found in the personal adjustment levels with respect to the places where the students have been staying during their education and in terms of the student's own physical appearance satisfaction, health condition and social, cultural and sports activities participation periods in his leisure time, meaningful differences have been found in the personal, social and general adjustment levels.
