Investigation of frequency of sjogren's syndrome in Behçet disease

Investigation of frequency of Sjogren?s syndrome in Behcet disease Behcet's disease (BD) and Sjogren's syndrome (SS) include common components and the genetic, infectious, autoimmune mechanisms play the role in the etiopathogenesis of these diseases. Although It has been shown that the relation to other autoimmune diseases of SS in our country and in the world, the number of studies showing the association with the SS of BH have little or no. The primary objective of our study contribute to overcome the deficiency in this area by investigating the association with the SS of BH, seen most commonly in our country in the world. Diagnosis of Sjogren's syndrome conventionally used SS-A and SS-B autoantibodies. But, SS-A-52, SS-A-60, Alpha-fodrin and Muscarinic acetylcholine receptor 3 (M3) autoantibodies, have been reported be determinative in the diagnosis of SS, has been defined in recent years. Present studies were evaluated SS-A-52, SS-A-60, M3, and alpha-fodrin autoantibody levels in 63 patients with Behcet made SS-A, SS-B and ANA (IFA) measurements. 63 people diagnosed with Behcet's disease and a control group of 30 healthy individuals were included in this study. The approvals have been obtained from all subjects evaluated in the scope of work and the follow-up form has been created. The blood serum of patients and control subjects was separate and routine biochemical parameters were examined in the same day. ELISA measurements of autoantibodies were performed by the same workers in same the laboratory within a short time. The obtained data were evaluated using appropriate statistical methods. As a result, while no significant differences were found in terms of levels of SS-A-52, SS-A-60 and M3 autoantibody levels between the patient and control groups, it were found to be significantly higher of alpha-fodrin levels in the patient group. Four subjects for SS-A-52, two subjects for SS-A-60 and twenty two subjects for alpha-fodrin in the patients group were positive. We thought that alpha-fodrin autoantibody more effectively can be used in the diagnosis of BH due to be a high rate positivity of Alpha-fodrin.
