A sustainable solid waste management decision model for municipalities (implementation in Tokat center, Turhal, Zile and regions)

The main theme of the study is to form a solid waste management model based on sustainabiiity and applicability for the municipalities. Within this framework; after the theoritical chapter, a research which includes four municipalities has been realised and a new model has been suggested. The suggested model has been transformed in to an implementation project. In the first chapter, main components of solid waste management process has been described and also the main concepts have been explained briefly. Studies related with the solid waste management has been evaluated from foreign cases. After the first chapter, the legal and administrative framework, strategies, infrastructure, investments, quantities, components and the costs have been examined. In the light of integration process to Europe Union, responsibilities and duties of Turkey, that has to be done are determined and possible difficulties, that can be faced has been ©vaulated.IV In the second chapter, from the point of view of existing situation, avoiding the hitching parts, and by doing that, maintaining the balance of using and conserving is proposed and suggesting a decision support model of solid waste management, those municipalities can apply within the existing conditions. The third chapter, consist of the interpretation of the case study. The methodology and calculation of the study has been examined in details. The economic and environmental benefits of the proposed model has been estimated. This thesis can be thought as a sample study for other municipalities. In the last chapter of the thesis, the main problems in theoritical and implementation area are defined and sets of solutions for these problems are proposed.
