Abstract (EN)

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to determine whether relationship stability in individuals in emerging adulthood is predicted by perceived parental attitudes and dating violence. In addition, the relationship between perceived parental attitude, dating violence and relationship stability and various variables such as gender, exposure to violence and use of violence were also examined. Method: Since the relationship between perceived parental attitudes, which are the independent variables of the study, and the dependent variables of the study, dating violence and relationship stability, will be examined in this study, the relational screening model was used. When examined in the context of temporal screenings, the study was carried out in accordance with the cross-sectional approach. The universe of this study was determined as young individuals in emerging adulthood who have previously experienced a dating relationship or are currently experiencing one. In this context, the data collection tool was applied to 475 female and 206 male participants who were studying at university or in the university preparation period. The use of factor analysis technique was deemed appropriate for the study group. The criterion sampling method, which is one of the purposeful sampling methods, was applied in the sample selection. Within the scope of the research, the "Parent Attitude Scale" was used to determine which parental attitudes students were raised according to in their family lives, the "Dating Violence Attitude Scale" was used to determine the attitudes of young people towards violence in dating relationships, and finally the "Relationship Stability Scale" was used to determine the relationship stability of the partners. In accordance with the aim of the research, t-test, anova, correlation and regression analysis techniques were applied. Findings: It was determined that perceived parental attitudes and dating violence were related to the relationship stability sub-dimensions of relationship satisfaction, evaluating the quality of options, investment and commitment. As a result of the regression analyses, it was seen that different parental attitudes and types of dating violence positively predicted relationship stability. Conclusion and Recommendations: As a result, it was seen that perceived parental attitudes predicted dating violence and relationship stability. It is thought that this study will contribute to the literature on relationship stability and to practitioners in terms of conducting studies to strengthen the parent-child relationship.
