Abstract (EN)
Human activities are the most important cause of greenhouse gas increases in the atmosphere. One of the most common areas of human activities is the construction sector. There are many professions in this sector, which has an increasing share in our economy. Ready-mixed concrete plants are one of them. Due to the increase in their number and their proximity to cities, it is necessary to investigate the damage to nature and take necessary measures. The aim of this study is to calculate the carbon emissions resulting from the energy and water use of a selected ready-mixed concrete plant in terms of tCO2e according to IPCC Tier 1 method and DEFRA method. In the study, greenhouse gas emissions from energy use of the ready-mixed concrete plant were calculated according to IPCC (2006) Tier 1 approach and total carbon emission was found to be 276,178 tCO2e. Among greenhouse gases, carbon dioxide was emitted more than other gases. This ratio is 98.82% (272.91 tCO2e). CH4 emission is 0,112% (0,308 tCO2e) and NO2 is 1,073% (2,964 tCO2e). According to DEFRA (2022) approach, greenhouse gas emissions from energy use of the ready-mixed concrete plant were calculated and total carbon emissions were 339.59 tCO2e. Among greenhouse gases, carbon dioxide was emitted more than other gases. This ratio is 95.18% (323,235 tCO2e). CH4 emission is 3.50% (11.90 tCO2e) and NO2 is 1.31% (4,457 tCO2e). IPCC and DEFRA approaches were compared and more carbon emission data were found in DEFRA approach. This is due to the fact that DEFRA is national. It is hoped that the data will help in the research on the determination and reduction of carbon emissions of ready-mixed concrete plants in order to leave a sustainable world.
