STRENGTHENING OF REINFORCED CONCRETEBEAMS BY EPOXY GLUED STEEL PLATES(M. Sc. Thesis)Ali UYSALGAZ UNIVERSITYINSTITUTE OF SCIENCEDecember 2006ABSTRACTThe use of steel plates is one of the most popular techniques ofstrengthening reinforced concrete beams under flexture strength. Inthis method, steel plates are bonded to the bottom of the beam. It wasobserved that strengthening concrete beams by using steel plates hasimportant ductility problems. The purpose of this study is to increaseductility of the reinforced beams that strengthened with steel plates. Inorder to achive this purpose, perforated steel plates are used in theexperimental study. Totally nine reinforced concrete beams, one ofwhich is the simple reinforced beam-the others are strenthened withperforated steel plates with different combinations, were tested undermonotonic loads. In this study, effects of using perforated steel plateson ductility, transfers of forces between surfaces, steel cross-sectionarea and bonding method are investigated. Results of the experiments are analyzed according to strengthening, ductility, energy consumption and rigidity. With the results of this studyit is observed that strenthening reinforced concrete beams withperforated steel plates shows a good behavior.Science Code : 911.1145Keywords : Beam repair, beam reinforcement, epoxy repair, perforated steel plateNumber of pages : 77Thesis supervisor : Dr. Sabahattin AYKAÇ
