Abstract (EN)
In Turkey, a damaging earthquake occurs approximately every 10 years. While some of the buildings are destroyed under the influence of earthquake, they cause loss of life, while other buildings are in a state that needs to be demolished after the earthquake. The Law on Transformation of Disaster Risk Areas was enacted in 2012 in order to provide a comprehensive and permanent solution to this issue. Thus, in order to prevent loss of life and property in the event of earthquake, it is aimed to demolish the old and poor quality buildings and build new buildings instead. There has been a rapid increase in the number of controlled building demolitions as a result of various incentives applied to achieve the aim of the relevant law. In a workshop held by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization in 2016, it was predicted that 6.5 million structures in our country are risky and that these risky structures will be demolished over a period of 20 years. The absence of comprehensive standards and regulations on demolition in our country, lack of necessary and sufficient level of research and studies on demolition techniques appropriate to the types and forms of construction in our country, is understood more clearly with the occupational accidents experienced especially during the demolition of buildings. In this study, the issues that should be taken into consideration during the demolition of buildings are given priority. Subsequently, by taking into consideration the reinforced concrete buildings with a more frequent bearing system and height, the building demolition techniques; applicability, time and cost. In the first part of this study, which consists of five main chapters, concepts related to destruction are given. The second section deals with the process of demolition by the demolition decision. In the third chapter, the demolition techniques are examined and their effectiveness is given. In the fourth section, the demolition techniques applied to the selected sample structures; applicability, time and cost. In the fifth chapter, the conclusions and recommendations of the study are presented.
