Abstract (EN)

This study was conducted to examine the forest fires occurring in the territories of Bigadiç Forest Management Directorate and the structure of fire organization. Based on the records of forest fires from 1990 to 2022, the causes and effects of the fires were analyzed. A total of 129 fires occurred, affecting an area of 573.16 hectares. Among these fires, 241.37 hectares were categorized as surface fires, while 331.7 hectares were categorized as crown fires. When examining the causes of the fires, it was determined that 14 fires were caused by natural factors, 57 fires were due to negligence, 5 fires were intentional, 4 fires were accidental, and the causes of 49 fires remained unknown. The most significant number of forest fires occurred in the Karyağdı Forest Management Unit, with 45 fires recorded and impacting a total area of 253.9 hectares. On the other hand, the Aktuzla Forest Management Unit had the least number of fires, with only 1 fire occurring and affecting a mere 0.01 hectares. The data obtained from this study provides important insights into the causes and effects of forest fires, contributing to the development of strategies for combating forest fires. It enhances the understanding of the fire management strategies and organizational structure of Bigadiç Forest Management Directorate, serving as a foundation for future fire prevention efforts.
