The Hagios Georgios Greek Church in Bilecik-Osmanel (Lefke)

The aim of this thesis is to analyse the historical and structural background of Hagios Georgios Church which has a special place in the architectural texture and history of Osmaneli, where is one of the districts of Bilecik. In order to analyse this building, firstly the residential and the historical structure of Osmaneli was examined and it was aimed to settle the building in its true domical historical place. To fulfill this objective, mainly The General Management of the State Archive?s Premiership Ottoman Archive was made use of. After a series of academic researches, no published and well-rounded sources were found about the Church of Hagios Georgios, apart from the records found in the state archive. In the conclusion of these researches made in the state archive, it was found out from a document published in 1897 that, the Church of Hagios Georgios was permitted to be reconstructed on its same bases which has stone walls, wooden pillars and a wooden roof (the exact drawings of this building can be found in the records of the archive). When the restitution of this building was being made, in order to complete the missing parts, the Hagios Georgios church and its quintessentials were examined. The restoration of this church is suggested in order to re-make use of it with a new function. For this purpose, the problems of this building were found out and some solutions for these problems are suggested.
