In the Tofflers' third wave, knowledge displaces capital, labor, andnatural resources as the principal reserve of the enterprise. It is asserted that themanagement of the knowledge resource is more complex than other resources. Thevaluation and auditing of knowledge is unlike physical labor or natural resources.Another assertion about knowledge is that its management therefore requires adelicate coordination of people, processes, and supporting technologies to achievethe enterprise objectives of security, stability, and growth in a dynamic world.Enterprise Knowledge Management is a deliberate, systematic businessoptimization strategy that selects, distills, stores, organizes, packages andcommunicates information essential to the business of a organization in a mannerthat improves employee performance and corporate competitiveness.Enterprise knowledge portals have emerged as a foundational tool to bindtogether the various content and collaboration activities of a knowledgemanagement ecosystem. The enterprise knowledge portals can be seen as thelatest stage in a continuing trend toward achieving enterprise information orknowledge integration. Enterprise knowledge portals are taking center stage in theknowledge management tool arena.Enterprise knowledge portals are useful platforms for tying togetherknowledge management functions. These include features for content organization(for business intelligence and learning materials), presentation, search, integration,personalization, and collaborative activity.
