Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this study is to investigate the technological properties of geological, mineorological and ındustrial usage of clay and sands in southwest of Binkılıç. Sedimentary basin consists of clay and sand sedimants, consists shalow pit covers that includes flat topographical properties according to North areas due to the rising of basic rocks in Northern Study area "Southwest of Çatalca-Binkılıç" consits of Rersiyer old and young sedimantary rocks. 1/10.000 scale geological map prepared in this region and sedimentary units were classified according to the lithostratigraphic features mapped an area of approximately 25 km2 The study area is located in Kırklareli F20 A2 sheet. The study is generally focuses on Binkılıç Village (Catalca) and clay quaries and sand areas that is located West of Binkılıç River (mangenese beds). Lithological units in the study area are the Oligocene and Mio-Pliocene clastic sediments. Especially North-northeastern of study area consits of basic rocks that takes part in Istıranca massif metamorphic rocks and granitic intrusions. These basic rocks unconformably overlain with Esosa the micritic limestone. Limestone incomes in accordance with Oligocene aged clay series. The stack is developed on the clay Miocene sands. The region has developed between the Mn-rich clay deposits in the Eocene-Oligocene boundary. Two different types of clay formation is located above the mangenese level. Clays below mangenese level have a high carbonate content and sandy content, above of these clay level, the clays have high organic content and beige and rosy colours. The data obtained from scientific studies conducted previously in the area and drilling cores show clay sedimants generally characteried by open sea lagoon enviroment because clay deposits in the religion have not got shallow water avoparated type minerals (gypsum, anhydrite and salt) on the other hand fish fossils were found in upper level clay, claystone, silt, and sand series passes Show the shallow environment Sand and Clay samples are taken systematically and grouped and investigated detaily. Laboratory tests are conducted in open clay quarry operated manganese and core samples that was made previously. The mineralogical composition of clays was analyzed by XRD. Usually clay samples are consist of varying rates of smectite group and lower rate of mixed-layer illite-mica clay minerals In addition calcite, quartz, chlorite, and opals contain feldspar. Clay samples that is analysed by DTA and TGA methods. Blue coloured clay on the mangenese level is characterised as bentonite and DTA-TGA profiles are matching with bentonite profilles. The ratio of total clay minerals in the clay samples varies from sample to sample. Bentonite characteristic blue clay and yellow clay that is over blue clay have totsl clay mineral content of % 65-75 level. Sodioum bentonite type clay can be used in cast steel, can be the iron pelletizing and construction sector ıf they are activated. Yellow clay samples from open pit quarry mangenese bed properties were investigated by experiments in Mineral Processing Laborutuar. Management of the bristles on the manganese level, more economical and easy to manufacture and can be made with those produced manger experiment because of their greater thickness of yellow clay at the top level were performed on these clays. Sands in the religion have two colours as yellow and grey and ıf classified by sand dimension classified as slim and medium sand class Sand samples are determined by examination under binocular microscope to determine the angularity and rotundity properties. Sand samples were generally understood to be in the semi-square half way round one. Then thin section sand samples were examined by the polarizing microscope petrography. Microscope studies show that two different types of sand mica (muscovite + biotite) were found. In the scope of this study air seperator (dry saperation) method is used to seperate mika and other sand components The obtained results are in the prediction quality for further study, in general, quartz can be used in more economical glass industry and other ındustries when proper methods growt to seperate quartz and feldspar because gray sands have got lower rate quartz and also quartz are more clear and translucent.
