Abstract (EN)

It is important that glycemic management is indispensable in preventing further complications in individuals with chronic metabolic disease. In this study, we tryied to find possible relationships between serum folate levels and each of the parameters related to hyperglycemic control, such as fasting blood glucose and glycosylated hemoglobin. In addition to shedding light on the possible relationships between serum folate levels and lipid profile, information about its role in diabetic dyslipidemia is given. The study was conducted in Dhi Qar Governorate of Iraq. The study included at least 100 patients divided into two groups, the patient group, and the control group. The distribution of the disease cases examined was among men rather than women, which supports our study. Because women consume more folic acid than men. The most affected age group was the 31-40 age group, and the least affected age group was the 20-30 age group. Diabetes was clearly associated with changes in folic acid levels and lipid profile. This also had a clear effect and was statistically highly significant when compared to the control group. This demonstrates the clinical importance of folic acid and triglycerides in type 2 diabetes. More studies should be done on folic acid metabolism.
