Abstract (EN)

Metallic implant materials are widely preferred especially in orthopedic applications due to their superior mechanical properties compared to ceramic and polymer-based biomaterials. However, it is necessary to improve the corrosion and biocompatibility properties, and researches for this purpose focus on the modification of implant surfaces with different bioceramics. Ti64 alloy is one of the most preferred alloys especially in orthopedic applications. For this reason, in this study, it was tried to make Ti64 alloy surfaces more functional with Y2O3 added BioGlass-based bioceramic coatings. For this purpose, Ti64 substrates were coated by BG, BG/1% Y2O3, BG/5% Y2O3 and BG/10% Y2O3, by sol-gel method and the effects of the bioceramic coatings on the degradation, bioactivity and ion release of the Ti64 alloy were investigated. All samples were characterized by SEM, XRD and EDS analyzes in detail before and after degradation, and Ti, Al, V and Y ion releases were detected after degradation. Porous structure and low crack density was achieved which are important in the osteointegration. Degradation values of less than 1% were detected in all samples and it was determined that BioGlass significantly increased the bioactivity of the Ti64 alloy. Y2O3 additive negatively affected the bio activity of BioGlass and the bioactivity of the coatings decreased with the increase in the amount of additive.
