Missed nursing care in a training and research hospital and effecting factors

Aim: This research was conducted to determine the missed nursing care needs of nurses working in a training and research hospital, the reasons for missed care, and the factors affecting it. Material and method: The study group of the descriptive study consisted of nurses working in a training and research hospital; nurses who met the inclusion criteria were included in the study by convenience sampling method. The data were collected through the "personal information form" and the "missed nursing care scale" and the face to face distribution and collection of the questionnaire form to the nurses. Data were analyzed using SPSS software with descriptive and inferential statistical analyses. Results: The average score of nurses' missed nursing care needs in the study was determined as 1.61±0.69, and the average score of the reasons for missed nursing care was 3.38±0.57. It was found that missed nursing care needs did not differ according to socio-demographic characteristics but varied according to the unit worked, work style, monthly average overtime, satisfaction with the unit, job, and profession. The reasons for missed nursing care varied according to the perception of the adequacy of the number of nurses working in the unit. Conclusion: It was determined that the missed nursing care needs of nurses were low, while the reasons for unmet nursing care were high; nurses missed care that they provided more frequently and routinely less often, and that they missed care such as emotional support and discharge education more frequently.
