Bourdieu as an educational sociologist

In this study Pierre Felix Bourdieu's, one of the major thinkers of the twentieth century, has been extensively studied. Bourdieu has introduced new concepts to the field of education or expanded the scope of existing concepts. Area, habitus, capital, symbolic power and so on. Bourdieu, who built his sociology on concepts, put forward his theories by combining quantitative data with qualitative data. Bourdieu, who considers the society as a macro field and considers the infrastructures as micro fields derived from the macro field, analyzed capital under the headings such as economic, cultural, social and symbolic capital and showed how the types of capital are interrelated. The thinker who created new concepts while studying society and social classes within the scope of education, examined many theories in the field of education and stated why and how important quantitative data is in research. In this study, Bourdieu's studies and theories in the field of education are presented in general terms. It is based on Bourdieu's life and works in general and includes a study of his educational and sociological ideas. This study, which will make important contributions to research and investigation methods in the academic field, aims to clarify the Bourdieu concepts commonly used in social sciences literature. Besides, it is envisaged to make contributions to the studies in the field of social sciences both theoretically and methodically.
