Abstract (EN)

Military service does not attract attention in folklore as a field of study,although it is one of the chief transition periods such as birth, circumcision, marriage,and death. However military service is a process that comes a matter of primaryimportance among the other transition periods with its feature of maturation. In thisstudy, from primitive societies to present modern societies, different examples ofmaturation periods are given and in the same sense military service with itsconstructive features are interpreted.In this study titled by ?military folklore as a maturation period?, cultural worldother than the period of military service with the social and the individual function istried to be analized. This world is cultural world including the period before, after andduring the military service and going on among the generations in the circumstancesof the age. It has been argued that cultural world of the military service in a barrackcan be analized in another study. In Turkish society undergoing a change from ruralareas to cities, the image of military service in the past and present is analized and ithas been come to conclusion that this culture has been altering.The people working on folklore does not give importance to military service bythe help of this study we hope to attract their attention to that issue. This culture thatcan be analized in varied fields or theories waits for the concern of the reseachers.Key words:1. Military service folklore2. Maturation3. Transition periods4. Sending off
