Abstract (EN)
In this thesis, the affect of improvements in machine layout and the numbers of machines at MAPSAN factory are analyzed. Machine layout is placement of all resources including machines, equipment, work-force to minimize material handling cost. The existing manufacturing system is modelled using ARENA simulation software and the accuracy of the model is tested with the actual data belonging to the year 2007. Then a new layout is developed using LAYOPT software and other improvements are also applied. The new performance values are calculated by applying ARENA again. Considerable improvements in performance values are observed with the proposed changes in the manufacturing system.
