Structural features of crypto currency news in the case of Bitcoin

This thesis was carried out to understand the role of media in producing news presented to prospective bitcoin investors. For this reason, on the economy news of newspapers have been focused, which are media tools. At this stage, two newspapers with a dominant opinion were selected and two newspapers with a critical opinion were selected and the news were examined comparatively on the axis of certain categories. Since this comparison explains the information behind the production process of the news, it also provides an understanding of the production process, buying and selling process of bitcoin, and its place in the system, providing the answers and understanding of the aims and assumptions of the thesis. In the first part of the thesis, the physical form of money and its digital form of money has been compared and examined. The changing structure of money has been dealt with in a historical way, and then a literature search has been carried out from digital money to crypto money and more specifically to bitcoin. This comparison, which deals with traditional and digital, has also been illuminating in terms of providing an understanding of the economic-political aspect of money. The second part of the thesis focuses on economic news, disinformation and critical media approaches. Here, it is explained how economy news is produced, how it shapes users' perceptions, how and for what purpose disinformation is used in the news. At the same time, the concepts used in critical media approaches; The ideological apparatuses of the state, the production of consent, hegemony and digital labor concepts have been used as tools to understand bitcoin. "Content analysis method" was used the research part of the thesis, Purposive sampling method was adopted as the research focused only on bitcoin news. At the same time, a research model is proposed to perform content analysis. This model describes a categorization effort that includes a mixed research method that creates both qualitative and quantitative content analysis.
