Abstract (EN)

This study dealt with the views of individuals who benefited from social policy practices carried out in the context of fighting poverty in Turkey, towards the social policy practices presented to them. In addition, it is aimed to reveal the level of social capital that the beneficiaries had, the effects of the level of social capital of the beneficiaries on their level of feeling poverty, and whether there was any mechanism that the beneficiaries developed among themselves before applying to social assistance institutions. In this context, using the Case Study Research Design, data were obtained and analysed by using in-depth interview technique from the participants selected among the individuals who benefited from social policy practices by applying to the Cizre Social Assistance and Solidarity Foundation. It was observed that more than half of the participants, who were found to be disadvantaged in terms of social capital level, experienced poverty at a high level, while the vast majority of the other participants felt poverty. In the study, it was observed that the beneficiaries were mostly unable to establish any assistance mechanism with their relatives or social circles before applying to social assistance institutions. The study showed that although the participants benefited from social assistance institutions, they did not feel a significant change in their lives, the current amounts of social assistance contributed little to the fight against poverty, and they mostly thought that the amount of social assistance provided should have been increased. Keywords: Poverty, Social Policy, Social Capital
