Abstract (EN)

This study was designed to test the hypothesis that "Halophytic plants can better adapt to areas contaminated with boron (B) and these plants may resemble B in terms of their resistance to salt. Within the scope of the study, 6 different Triticum aestivum L. cultivars (Dagdas 94, Ceyhan 99, Atay 85, Bezostaja, Sultan 95, Both 79) were used, which were obtained from the Geçit Kuşağı Agricultural Research Institute (Eskişehir, Türkiye). The seeds were germinated at different B and salt (sodium chloride-NaCl) concentrations and under the same conditions and germination responses were determined. In addition, germination indexes were calculated, and wet and dry weight of the radicula and plumule sections were determined at the end of the experiment. At the same time, photosynthetic pigment amounts were determined to be able to observe and confirm the toxicity effects biochemically. As a result of the study, it was determined that Ceyhan 99 and Sultan 95 varieties, which were determined to be sensitive to salt, were sensitive to B, and other varieties that developed relatively well in halophytic environments also developed relatively well in B-containing environments and the results were confirmed with other specified parameters. As a result, the hypothesis was accepted. We believe that the results of this study will contribute to possible planning for B contaminated areas.
