Abstract (EN)

From past to present, regional imbalances have been a problem for all countries. The regional development approach has been involved in the economic policies of many countries especially after World War II. The existing development differences between the regions of many countries, which are underdeveloped, developing or developed have led the countries to work to reduce or minimize these differences. For this reason, countries have begun to analyze their existing potentials and produce appropriate solutions to these potentials. Countries, implement different regional development strategies according to their socioeconomic and cultural characteristics. In this study, regional development tools and activities such as tax incentives, development agencies, entrepreneurship, cooperatives, innovation, R & D and tourism have been identified as activities that help to overcome development differences in order to reveal the potentials of underdeveloped regions. In the Regional Development and Cukurova Region part of the study, it has been tried to be determined in the direction of the development level, social and economic structures of the region through the Mersin, Adana and Osmaniye provinces in Cukurova Region. The information obtained was evaluated within the framework of comparative advantage approach. The leading sectors in three provinces were identified. Suggestions to increase the development level of Cukurova Region are presented. As a result of these studies, it is concluded that the region will be an alternative region to Marmara Region.
