Abstract (EN)
Purpose: To examine the effect of boron nitride and boric acid coated composites on fracture healing. Material and Method: In this study, 24 Wistar albino rats were randomly distributed into 6 groups: 3 control groups and 3 experimental groups. Fractures in the control group were treated with the classical titanium plate and screw system, and fractures in the experimental group were treated with the plate and screw system coated with boron nitride-boric acid composite. On the 10th, 20th and 30th post-operative days, intracardiac blood collection and sacrifice were performed, and X-ray, biochemistry, micro-CT and histological evaluations were performed. Results: Alkaline phosphatase level and Micro-CT new cortical bone rate (%) were higher, osteocalcin and Insulin-like growth factor levels were lower in the experimental groups compared to the control group, and equal median values were detected in x-ray staging, but the median values of the markers were not statistically significant. It was found that there was no difference. Regardless of the post-operative day, lower median levels of Osteocalcin were detected in the experimental group (p = 0.024). Conclusion: Plates coated with boron nitride and boric acid composite have been found to have a positive effect on fracture healing, and we believe that these plates should be considered as a new type of coating for implants in the world of orthopedics.
