Traces of rural architectural heritage in düğer village, burdur: analysis of settlement pattern and documentation of a traditional house

This thesis aims to examine the traditional rural architectural heritage of Düğer Village, located in Burdur Province in Turkey's Mediterranean Region, and to document a selected original structure within this context. Traditional buildings that reflect the socio-cultural identity of rural settlements bear traces of local lifestyles through their spatial layouts, material use, and construction techniques. However, today, many of these structures face the threat of extinction due to neglect, migration, and the demands of modern life. In this context, the study first provides an overall evaluation of the traditional architectural texture of Düğer Village, followed by a detailed documentation of a selected building. An analytical röleve (measured drawing) of the structure was prepared, restitution research was conducted, and restoration intervention proposals were developed and incorporated into the drawings. The analyses carried out on the plan layout, structural system, material characteristics, and decorative elements enabled the identification and documentation of the architectural character specific to the region. Furthermore, a new use proposal focusing on functional sustainability was developed to ensure the preservation and continuity of the building for future generations. The research methodology is based on on-site observation, measurement, analytical röleve drawings, photographic documentation, and literature review. The findings reveal that the building embodies the typical features of rural architectural heritage and that the 1971 Burdur Earthquake caused significant deterioration in its load-bearing elements. In conclusion, this study contributes both to the documentation and preservation of local architectural heritage and to raising awareness about preventive measures for rural structures against natural disasters such as earthquakes. Additionally, the findings and proposals aim to serve as a valuable reference for future academic research on rural architecture.
