Importance and achievements of Integrated Disaster Management System

Turkey, as in the past, earthquakes, floods, avalanches, fires, landslides, etc. It has encountered and continues to encounter natural disasters frequently. In recent years, together with climate changes and global warming, the issue of disaster has started to occupy our agenda for a longer period of time. Disasters seriously damage the economic structure of countries as well as loss of life and injuries. The major disasters that occurred in our country and the harsh realities experienced after them made it necessary to review the current system and to have an effective and sustainable disaster management system. Reducing the damage caused by disasters, continuation of normal life without any problems, and not harming the country's economy will only be possible with the implementation of a viable and sustainable disaster management mechanism. For this purpose, studies have been initiated to create a new disaster management model in Turkey. In this context, the disaster management systems applied in the world were examined and it was decided to plan and put into practice the "Integrated Disaster Management System", which includes risk and crisis management, which can respond to the disaster dangers and risks of our country, taking into account the new emerging technologies. Integrated Disaster Management System; Unlike the classical period, it is a planning process consisting of all phases of disaster including mitigation, preparation, response, rescue, first aid, preliminary recovery and reconstruction. In the thesis study prepared within this framework; Disaster types, disaster management examples applied in the world, the transition process from classical disaster management to the integrated disaster management process in our country, and the importance and achievements of the integrated disaster management system are tried to be explained.
