Taxonomical investigation of Chironomidae larvae at Büyük stream (Pelte, Elazig)

In order to determine of Chironomidae species of Buyuk Stream (Pelte, Elazıg), samples were collected from 3 determined stations for each month between June 2006- July 2007. As a result of this study, totally 19 taxa were determined; of these 6 belong to Tanypodinae [Tanypus puctipennis Meigen, 1818, Psectrotanypus varius (Fabricius, 1787), Procladius (Holotanypus) sp., Ablabesmyia phatta (Eggert, 1863), Ablabesmyia longistyla Fittkau, 1962, Larsia curticalcar (Kieffer,1918)], 8 belong to Chironominae [Harnischia fuscimana Kieffer, 1921, Chironomus plumosus (Linnaeus, 1758), Chironomus anthracinus Zetterstedt, 1860, Chironomus tentans Fabricius, 1805, Polypedilum aberrans Chernovskij, 1949, Paratendipes albimanus (Meigen, 1818), Einfeldia carbonaria (Meigen, 1804), Cladotanytarsus mancus (Walker, 1856)], and 5 belong to Orthocladiinae [Paracladius conversus (Walker, 1856), Corynoneura validicornis Kieffer, 1925, Rheocricotopus fuscipes (Kieffer, 1909), Halocladius fucicola (Edwards, 1926), Chaetocladius dentiforceps (Edwards, 1926)]. These species were identified at Buyuk Stream for the first time. Some physical and chemical features of the Buyuk Stream, the distribution of the Chironomidae larvae according to the stations and months, and the frequency analysis of these larvae have been given.Key Words: Buyuk Stream, Elazıg, Chironomidae, Larvae, Taxonomy.
