Abstract (EN)
This is a study concerning the traditional building techniques of Iran which actually is inheritance of the Great Seljukids. The main goal is to prepare a document for contemporary restoration works of these building materials and techniques before they are forgatten. The subject is studied by observations of the present restorational works, by interviewing building masters and researching within archives of Iran about this matter. The study consists of eigth chapters. After the introduction in the second chapter historical development of Seljukids is analaysed in general. In the third chapter Traditional Iranian Architecture is examined according to their architectural characteristics in different periods of rulling dynasties. In the fourth chapter traditional building materials such as mudbrick, brick and glazed bricks are studied concerning their production stages, implementation methods and decorational techniques. In the fifth chapter traditional mortars and types are mentioned according to their spesifications. vii After taking in consideration these knowledges, in the sixth chapter posibilities of using the building tradition of the Great Seljukids in contemporary restorations are disscused. In the last and eigth chapter the need of the traditional building knowledge is stressed and general evaluation is made accordingly. Finally proposals are given for new restorations and conservation efforts.
