Abstract (EN)

This thesis examines the role of big data in merger control. The concerns about the data driven mergers has been raised about the following issues. The acquisition of promising firms by Google, Apple, Facebook (Meta), Amazon, and Microsoft ("GAFAM") has become a pattern in digital markets. Yet it could be argued that the attitude towards these concentrations is not prohibitive. In the first chapter, big data and its features are handled. It should be noted that without examining these features, the impact of big data on the market, can not be fully understood on the market. In the second chapter, the features of digital markets are examined by considering the features may affect the concentrations. In the third chapter, EU's approach are be examined in the light of Comission decisions. Finally, in the fourth chapter, recent developments in Turkish competition legislation are discussed and recommendations for the control of concentrations in digital markets are presented.
