Abstract (EN)

The annexing of Egypt to the Ottoman Sultanate is considered one of the main stages that shaped the transition of the Ottoman Sultanate from a state to a great empire, and at the same time it is one of the events that shaped the modern world in which we currently live. Sultan Selim I led the Ottoman army in the battles of Marj Dabiq and Ridaniya, and achieved a great victory during which he ended Mamluk rule in the Levant and Egypt. He subsequently entered Cairo, took control of it, and established the Eyalet of Egypt, in which Cairo became - in terms of importance - the second city after Istanbul in the sultanate. Through a comparative view between sources in different languages, including: Arabic, Ottoman Turkish, and Hebrew, I will narrative of events that occurred in Sultan Selim's campaign against Egypt, which ultimately led to the destruction of the Mamluk Sultanate, and established of the Ottoman rule in Cairo. I have chosen these sources in eastern and western languages in order to approach the event more closely, and to provide a new insight of the Ottoman campaign against Egypt. Keywords: Sultan Selim I, Egypt, Mamluks, Battle of Marj Dabiq, Battle of Ridaniya
