Investigation of city concept via samples of composition on İstanbul and the dimensions of art education in modern Turkish drawing

Art always expresses human emotions and sensations by designing the nature and evokes deep thoughts on human life (Ziss, 2011:34). Cultural historians have established that emergence of culture and art started with the foundations of small city states following the settlement of human beings on river coasts. Urban structures have undergone important transformations and changes in social processes especially after the industrial revolution. City concept has developed along with culture and art. Art work has displayed characteristics that helped prove this association. City concept has been addressed together with change and transformation in world art and modern Turkish drawings. The study has limited the city concept with landscape drawings of Istanbul and city concept was examined by selecting compositions on Istanbul from Modern Turkish Drawing. The study is composed of five sections. First section includes the problem statement, sub problems, significance of the study, purpose and the limitations. Second section investigates city and Istanbul landscapes in Modern Turkish Drawing. Includes the works of foreign, Turkish artists and researcher's who worked on city concept and Istanbul landscapes. Third section addresses the research method, model, universe and sample along with data collection methods. Fourth section is composed of expert views on the findings and the comments based on Modern Turkish Drawing history. Results and Discussion provides information on the obtained results and future studies as well as suggestions related to Art Education.
