The military, political, sociocultural and scientific effects of poets and poetry in the Arabs from the age of ignorance to the Umayyads

ABSTRACT Poet and poetry in Arab society have been one of the most powerful elements of verbal culture since ancient times. In particular, poetry was the most influential means of communication between society. While the honor and dignity of the tribes was glorified by the couplets of the poets, the political and social power of the tribe was shaken by satiricals. Poets could start a war with the couplets they said or lead to peace. They also support the win with their poems of motivation and encouragement. Poetry was also the carrier and transmitter of verbal history and cultural heritage. For these reasons, educating poets was the greatest source of tribes. In the period of ignorance, there were poets who encouraged the society to the good deeds and virtuous, although the issues such as medih, satirical, heroism, bravery, and frustrations were mostly dominant in the early stages of poetry. At the moral point of Islam, the poets who led the society to the right and good deeds increased. Poetry was used effectively in the construction of the new religion and the spread of Islamic values was made. In this way, poets and satirical poets to make society good existed in later periods. Thus, the understanding of social structure and morality through poems was tried to be shaped. Another important activity of poetry is Arabic Language and Literature, Hadith, Tafsir, Music, History, such as the development of valuable sciences and has played an important resource. In the period of ignorance, the poetry, which protected the dignity of the tribes and glorifies the position, could be used as a propaganda tool in the following periods. The caliphs have protected the poets who glorified themselves and tried to rejuvenate reputation before the society. In order to ensure or consolidate the legitimacy of the state, poetry was beneficial and values were given gifts to poets. The aim of this study is to show the extent to which poets and poetry are mostly effective on Arab society, administration and developing sciences by using classical but modern sources.
