The mediating role of well-being and burnout in the impact of work life balance on life satisfaction within the context of working models

There is a widespread belief that flexible working models will remain in place following the COVID-19 pandemic. Numerous studies are currently being conducted regarding these models, both in local and foreign literature. When it comes to flexible working there are both advantages and disadvantages. To address both positive and negative aspects, this thesis elaborates the relationship between work-life balance and life satisfaction through the lenses of well-being and burnout. By including hybrid and remote working along with traditional working, a comprehensive structure from the employee's perspective is expected to emerge, contributing to the literature by comparing how these three different working models differ. Based on research conducted with a total of 562 white-collar employees, it was found that in traditional working, psychological well-being and burnout mediate the relationship between work-life balance and life satisfaction. In hybrid working, this mediating effect was identified only at the level of psychological well-being. Remote workers, on the other side, show differences in mediating effects compared to other working models. Consequently, it becomes difficult to make future projections regarding remote workers' work-life balance and satisfaction with their lives. As emphasized in the literature, the process is expected to evolve over time with the participation of all stakeholders, including lawmakers, organizations, and employees collectively.
