Abstract (EN)

While there is an increase in the number of water treatment facilities in our country, gettingrid of sludge resulted from the water treatment process is on the agenda as anotherengineering problem. Thanks to the sectoral progress, research studies have begun recently in our country whilesolutions related to sludge were being produced in 80?s in developed countries. This studywill be about examining the characteristics of the machines used to separate sludge from rawwater. To solve the problem with an effective and economic way, it is necessary not only to benefitfrom other countries? experiences but also to define own conditions and provisions of everyfacility and settlement.Sludge dewatering system is a fundamental physical (mechanical) process to decrease thewater content in sludge. By means of this operation, volume of sludge will be lowered, so thethe cost of transportation, and an easiness of transportation will be provided. There will be anadvantage in terms of storage as well.In this research, current sludge dewatering systems are examined; information is given aboutthe types of systems. In the light of these technical information, according to the givenparameters, belt filter press which is one of the dewatering systems is selected and designedaccordingly. Keywords: Water treatment, get rid of, dewatering, cost.
