Determination of the population development and its predators of the carmine spider mite Tetranychus cinnabarinus Boisduval (Acarina: Tetranychidae) on tomato area in Çanakkale, Turkey.

Tomato (Lycopersicum esculentum Miller) (Solanaceae) is one of the most produced and consumed vegetables in our country and in the world. Tomato is produced approximately on 100000 da area in Çanakkale.Tetranychus cinnabarinus Boisd. (Acari: Tetranychidae), which is a pest in acari subclass, is one of the important species that causes damage on tomato and other vegetables in Çanakkale.This study was performed to determine the population development and natural enemies of T. cinnabarinus in Çanakkale province between the years 2008-2009.Seasonal population development of T. cinnabarinus, peak periods of mite population and natural enemies feeding on the pest are determined on 3 early-maturing tomato fields with weekly samplings.According to the study results, it is determined that population density of T. cinnabarinus reached to its peak periods at mid-august and at the beginning of september on tomato plants. Important natural enemies are found to be from Stigmaeidae, Tydeidae, Phytoseiidae, Coccinellidae, Anthocoridae and Thripidae families.
