viTHE NUMERICAL ANALYSIS OF FLOW AND HEAT TRANSFER IN ACHANNEL WITH TRAVERSE BAFFLE ARRAYS(M. Sc. Thesis)Derya DEMİRELGAZI UNIVERSITYINSTITUTE OF SINCE AND TECHNOLOGYDecember 2006ABSTRACTIn this study, two-dimensional numerical analysis of fluid flow and heat transferare performed between two parallel plates channel smooth and with baffles forlaminar forced convection. Baffles are placed in the form of staggered from theentrance of the channel. Governing equations are solved numerically usingFluent 6.3 package program. The effect of baffle quantity on heat transfer andflow are observed. Reynolds number is varied between 100 and 1500 for smoothchannel and it is varied between 100 and 500 for baffled channel flow. Fluidproperties are taken as constant. Hydrodynamically fully developed andthermally developing flow are used in this study. It is seen that increasing thenumber of baffles has positive effect on heat transfer. It is also observed that average Nusselt number, average skin friction factor, local skin friction coefficient and minor loses coefficient are increased withincreasing baffle quantity.Science Code : 914.1.065Key Words : Laminar flow, parallel plates, baffle, flow and heattransfer, Fluent.Page quantity : 180Adviser : Prof. Dr. Nevzat Onur
