Population, settlement and economical activities in city center of Çemişgezek (Tunceli)

Çemişgezek is a city of Tunceli, situated in the upper Euphrate region in Eastern Anatolia. North of the city is surrounded by 3000m. high mountains. Yılan Mountain and Kırklar Mountain are the highest parts of the area. The coast of the Lake of Keban Dam is the lowest part. Reserach field is limited with center of Çemişgezek including 10 km2 area. Settlements of Çemişgezek include 1,25 km2 average rainfall is 500 mms./year and average temperature is 13-14 °C. The most important stream crossing the plain is the stream Tahar. Social geography characteristic of city center were formed due to geomorphologic characteristic mostly. Population of Çemişgezek is limited in a proper level during history. The most important reason of this case is that economical activities and especially agricultue are limited by geomorphologic characreristics. The population of the city has increased (except for 1945 and 1985 population counting) continously, after establishment of republic. The settlement area is not suitable for development of the city. The settlement of the city is limited by Gediktepe in east, Stream Deliteccal in north and Stream Tahar in west. Economical potential as it was mentioned above has not been carried out in a wide field, due to unsuitable geomorphological characteristics. Sheep breeding is major economical activity.
